About this platform
This is an independent study tool built to prepare for the École du Barreau du Québec's Droit appliqué (Applied Law) examination. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or reviewed by the École du Barreau or the Barreau du Québec, and its content has not been reviewed by a lawyer.
What the exam looks like (official notice of October 15, 2026)
- Thursday, October 29, 2026: arrival 8:30 a.m., start 9:00 a.m., 5 hours.
- 50 multiple-choice questions in five dossiers: obligations, civil liability, prior claims and hypothecs; persons and family; labour and administrative; business; criminal and penal — each with the related evidence and procedure where the notice says so.
- The exam is out of 100 points; the pass mark is 60%. Results are expected on January 4, 2027.
- Permitted: the annotation-free editions of the codes and statutes listed in the notice (Civil Code, Code of Civil Procedure, Youth Protection Act, the Lois du travail and business-law collections, the Act respecting administrative justice, a Criminal Code with or without annotations), personal annotations but no added sheets, tabs or sticky notes, an HB pencil, eraser and highlighters. The École provides the calculator. All electronic devices are prohibited.
Always rely on the official notice, the Guide du candidat and the Guide de préparation à l’examen de droit appliqué for the rules of the day.
Where the content comes from
- Legislation is checked against the official consolidations in the reader's language — LégisQuébec for Québec statutes (both languages are official) and the Justice Canada website for federal statutes. Every citation links to the official text in your language.
- Explanations, examples and questions are our own original writing, based on those texts. They are paraphrases, not official wording.
- Exam papers and preparation material from the École are protected by copyright: they were used only to understand the exam's structure and the kinds of reasoning it tests, and are not reproduced here.
- Each question records its sources, the version of the law it was checked against and the date of the check. Questions whose answer could not be established with confidence are held back rather than published.
Progress
The green check on a topic means you answered every exercise and at least 80% of your latest answers are correct. It measures progress on this platform, not mastery of the subject or success on the exam.
